The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

 Title  Southpaw
This documentary of the boxing career of Francis Barrett focuses on the obstacles he faced becoming an amateur boxing champion. First, he had to overcome prejudice against his people, the "Travellers." In Ireland, Travellers are looked down upon and are habitually excluded. Also, lack of funds and training facilities plagued his career even after he became a champion. But because of these hardships, he is seen by many as a hero. Few could get so far in their careers with so little. The footage is raw in its editing giving a real and rare view of the person. Francis is open and frank leaving him as emotionally vulnerable as his is physically formidable. Link to reviews Click picture
