The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

 Title  Ryan's Daughter
Set in a small coastal village in the west of Ireland during WWI, the locals wait for German support in their wish to split from England. Though they hide it on the surface, everyone, with few exceptions, is preoccupied with the British occupation. When a young, Irish woman decides to abandon the strict taboos and follow her passions, she chooses a man from the other side and ends up shunned by the entire village. The message though is not condemning the woman's desires or the villager's uptight attitudes toward sex. Rather, it is the Irish love of talk that is their downfall. Link to reviews
