The Irish in Film
An Annotated Database

 Title  Pilgrimage
Set in the thirteenth century just after the last crusade, a group of monks must travel from the west coast of Ireland to Rome. Their task is to deliver a relic of St. Matthias to the Pope. Danger confronts them from every angle - not least being the pagan Celts who remain unimpressed with their god. Their faith in their task and even in God is tested. But my faith in the future of Irish film was bolstered. We see an Irish landscape still covered in trees. Monks sport a front of the head tonsure. Normans, in battle armor, assert their dominance. But, none win the allegiance of the native Celts who stomach none of this nonsense. Link to reviews Click picture
