Title  Out of Ireland: The Story of Irish Emigration to America
The Irish mass emigration of the late 19th century is shown through the letters of seven immigrants who came to America. Each is read by a famous, Irish actor who dramatizes the text. The historical background detailing the 'Great Hunger' and the Penal Laws (which forbade Catholics from owning land and holding public office) reveals the motivation of many who left Ireland for religious freedom and a chance for a better life. And the songs of the time, sung here by folklorist Mick Moloney, give us the real sense of the times. Link to reviews Click picture
