The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

 Title  Ned Kelly
This is the third and most recent of three feature films about Ned Kelly. One of the earliest silent films ever made (1906) was about him. Kelly, an Australian of Irish descent, was a Jessie James-like folk hero. He wasn't praised for robbing and killing, but for his main goal of taking down the establishment. Australia in the 1880s had much in common with the Old West (US). He may have been an outlaw, but many believed he was fighting a corrupt system and gave him support. When Kelly was finally caught after years of evading the authorities, thousands signed a petition to save his life. See also: Ned kelly (1970) Link to reviews Click picture
