The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

 Title  The Mighty Celt
The 'Troubles' may be over in Northern Ireland, but lingering resentments still cast a pall on life in Belfast. In our story, a 14-year-old, fatherless boy finds a way to channel his energy. His love for dogs lands him a job with a man who races greyhounds for profit. His future seems rosy until his father returns home to Belfast. Old ties between the father and the dog racer lead back to troubled times. Some want to move forward. Some are stuck in the past. And still, the young are innocent victims caught in the middle. Though this film concentrates mainly on the boy and his dog, the undercurrent of violence is always present. (There was another Irish film about an orphan boy and dog racing made the same year. Turning Green, however, concerns a not so innocent boy who joins the local mob.) Link to reviews Click picture
