The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

Title  Long Day's Journey into Night
Though an Irishman may have found financial success in his new country the past is always with him; his thoughts and ways were shaped by the old country. This film shows us a man who cannot relax and enjoy life in America because of fears rooted in the past. Because his father went back to Ireland leaving the family destitute, he is stricken with an uncontrollable desire to 'make it' in America. He and his family suffer because every available dollar goes to buy land or on some get rich scheme. And his sons cannot understand his miserly ways and resent him, tearing the family apart. Opportunity is no guarantee of success. Some Irish did not make it in America. Link to reviews
