The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

 Title  The Guard
This light comedy deals with serious subjects. In a sleepy west coast Irish village a grizzly murder takes place. Does this upset the locals? Does it even rise above the usual gossip? Our poor lone Garda is swooped down upon by Garda from the local city, from Dublin, and even an American FBI agent. His assumption, of course, is the big-city lads don't think he can handle the case. What we find is that the film is really about prejudice; not prejudice toward the African-American FBI agent, but toward the west coast Irish. Yet, it is they who know the lay of the land, who is who, and what is usual. The local, Sergeant Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson), calmly puts the facts together while the outsiders entertain the whole village with their highfalutin ways. Link to reviews Click picture
