The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

Title  American Women (aka The Closer You Get)
Our story is set in Donegal at the end of the 20th century where time has left the villages and villagers virtually unchanged for decades. Some villages on the Irish coast are so small that every person knows everyone else. And the villages are so isolated that the villagers know absolutely no one from the outside. The sociological study of Irish rural life 'Saints, Scholars, and Schizophrenics,' describes just such a village. Emigration, particularly of women, has left many Irish men slim pickings when it comes to wives. But our story, though exact in its details as the study, depicts the humorous side of finding a mate.
